19th Asian Television Awards – winners announced

Singapore, December 12, 2014 – On December 11, 500 industry members, including channel heads, on-air personalities, and production personnel gathered at the Marina Bay Sands once again to celebrate the best in Asian Television at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. The Asian Television Awards (ATA) is Asia's most significant and celebrated event, recognising excellence in programming, production and performance.

This year's ATA saw 1,371 entries from 14 countries across Asia-Pacific. In all, 199 channels from 119 broadcasters, as well as 64 independent production companies, vied for accolades across 38 award categories.

A total of 43 trophies were given out at the awards ceremony, including the "Outstanding Contribution to Asian Television" trophy presented to Larry Namer, President/CEO of Metan Global Entertainment Group. Some highlights include Malaysia’s Puteri Balqis Aizizi grabbing the "Best Actress in a Leading Role" for Balqis while Taiwan's Hsieh Chiung-Hsuan walked away with "Best Actress in a Supporting Role” for Lonely River. New Zealand’s Attitude Pictures also bagged an award for “Best Social Awareness Programme” for Attitude - Unlocking Autism while Japan’s TBS scored a win in “Best Drama Series” for Naoki Hanzawa.

As a finale, MediaCorp and CNN International ended off the night each with two major awards for "Terrestrial Broadcaster of the Year” & "Terrestrial Channel of the Year", and "Cable & Satellite Network of the Year" & "Cable & Satellite Channel of the Year” respectively.

The Awards will reach out to over 30 million households across Asia-Pacific - televised regionally on Star World, BBTV, Astro Ria, and broadcasted locally on MediaCorp Channel 5. Stay tuned for more telecast details.

19th Asian Television Awards Nominees Unveiled

Singapore, 13 November 2014 - The finalists for the 19th Asian Television Awards were announced today.

239 nominees, across 38 categories, span 13 countries have made the cut to compete for glory at the 19th Annual Presentation of the region's most prestigious industry awards. The results were tabulated and audited by international auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. Leading the pack, with multiple nominations across several categories, are Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, FOX International Channels, and MediaCorp.

Youku Tudou Inc’s Senior Vice President Yang Weidong joins ATA Advisory Board

Asian Television Awards (ATA), Asia’s most widely participated and star-studded television industry event, is proud to announce the appointment to its Advisory Board of Mr. Yang Weidong, Senior Vice President and President of Tudou.com at Youku Tudou Inc.

Prior to Youku Tudou, Mr. Yang served as the Chief Executive Officer of Max Times, a youth entertainment content and marketing company. Previously, he held various positions at Nokia Greater China; from advertising to marketing activation.

Over the years, ATA has evolved to keep in step with the changing needs of our industry. In that same spirit, the ATA Advisory Board was formed in 2010, comprising senior management from the major broadcasters in the region. This network of industry experts provides advice and guidance on how ATA can achieve its vision.

Asian Television Awards to honour entertainment industry veteran, Larry Namer, President/CEO, Metan Global Entertainment Group

The 19th Asian Television Awards (ATA) is pleased to announce the recipient of its Award for Outstanding Contribution to Asian Television, presented annually during the Gala to be held on December 11, 2014 at Asia's most spectacular destination – Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

This year’s recipient, Mr. Larry Namer, an entertainment industry veteran with more than 40 years of professional experience in cable television, live events and digital media. He is the founding partner of Metan, a venture created to develop and distribute entertainment content and media specifically for the China market. He is also the co-founder of E! Entertainment Television, a company now valued at over US$3.5 billion, and the creator of several successful companies, including Comspan Communications that pioneered Western forms of entertainment in the former Soviet Union and Steeplechase Media that served as the primary consultant to Microsoft’s MiTV (Interactive Television).

Metan’s flagship series Hello! Hollywood, a weekly entertainment news series tailored to Chinese audiences, is available on the company’s Hollywood Channel on Tudou. Metan has developed the successful sitcom ‘Return to Da Foo Tsun’ and Web series ‘Modern Life’, which have garnered a viewership of over 40 million viewers.

Recently, Metan and a coalition of North America’s top TV and film writers partnered to launch Metan Wen Zhi Ku, a joint venture linking Western writing talent with transmedia projects for China. Mr. Namer is also the co-founder of MINGYIAN INC., a China brand management startup for Western celebrities and influencers.

New umbrella event for Asian Film and TV Content to launch this December in Singapore

Singapore, 24 March 2014 – Come this December, trade visitors and members of the public can expect a bigger and better film and TV event in Singapore, called the Singapore Media Festival, as announced by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) today.

The annual Singapore Media Festival is set to become one of Asia’s leading international media events. This year, it will run from 4 to 14 December 2014.

The Singapore Media Festival brings together four complementary film and TV events – a trade market for film and TV, conferences, awards and festival screenings under a single umbrella. For 2014, these will be held as follows:

1. Singapore International Film Festival, 4 – 14 December 2014
2. Asian Television Awards, 11 December 2014
3. Asia TV Forum & Market, 9 – 12 December 2014
4. ScreenSingapore, 9 – 12 December 2014
