Asian Television Awards Superpitch 2013 – winners announced

Superpitch 2013, organised by Television Asia Plus, is the region's ultimate pitching event for aspiring and experienced professionals in TV production. This year's competition received over 40 entries from across 11 countries. In the final shortlist, five entries each were selected for the Documentary and Children/ Preschool genres, while three entries were selected for the Ad-Funded genre. The finalists, representing, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, pitched their ideas in person to an expert panel of judges on Thursday, 5 December 2013, at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Singapore.

The winner of the Documentary Superpitch went to Likay Fever, from Thailand's VS Service Production And A single Production. Director Luke Cassady-Dorion and Director of Photography Pete Smithsuth won the judges over with their profile of a Likay performer, whose profession forges an inexplicable bond with the common folk, but whose artform is in danger of extinction.

The winner of the Children/ Preschool Superpitch went to Xanthus Animation Studio from Taiwan, who pitched an anime-style series entitled Origami Fighters W. The pitchers' reel revealed an edgy and futuristic world where humans don robotic gear and battle for supremacy.

The Ad-Funded Pitch comes with a real advertiser. The winners of the pitch, Need a Job, by Homegrown Productions Sdn Bhd, Malaysia, walked away with a consultancy fee of S$7,500 and will see their project being developed for air on Singapore's StarHub TV's TV4ME channel. Homegrown Productions took a humorous approach with their docu-reality idea for client Jobs TV, an internet TV channel that helps employees improve their knowledge, skills, capabilities and career prospects.
